175th Marietta Campmeeting Underway
The traditional religious revival is open to the public on its historic Campground on Roswell Road through July 22.
One of East Cobb's oldest traditions is having a special celebration this year.
The Marietta Campmeeting, first held in 1837 as a religious revival, marked its 175th anniversary Saturday with festivities designed to tell the story of its history, and encourage current generations to continue the tradition.

The Campmeeting is rooted in the Methodist tradition and began as an observation by farmers taking a break from their work and giving thanks for what they produced.
Over the years it grew into a full-fledged religious revival, and is now a non-denominational Christian event.

It has continued uninterrupted, except during the Civil War, and in recent years has been inviting the public to attend and learn the tradition.
Daily services take place at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A tour of the famous Campmeeting tents is next Saturday, July 21.
