Mr. Carl L. Conway, 76, of Marietta passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.  Mr. Conway was born on December 1, 1936 in Sloan, NY to parents Leo and Natalie Cwiczewicz. He married his high school sweetheart Glenda Marie Johnson on September 26, 1959 at St. Agnes Church in Buffalo, NY.
Mr. Conway's memories will be cherished by those survived by him including his devoted wife Glenda of 54 years, daughter Lisa Conway and grandson Gus Todd of Kennesaw, daughter Caryn Conway and Jim Bowie, grandchildren Austin and Abby of Canton and son Paul and daughter-in-law Gina Conway of Kennesaw. Surviving siblings include sisters Leona Miller, Nanci McCarter, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Joanna Conway of Williamsville, NY and brother and sister-in-law William and Marsha Conway of Putnam, CT.
Mr. Conway graduated from Sloan High School in 1954. He began his career at Nu-Way Markets which later became Acme Markets. He was the Warehouse Manager when he left in 1979. In 1980 he moved to Marietta, GA where he worked for Food Lion and then retired from Circuit City in 2000.  Mr. Conway always said that one of his best decisions was moving his family to Atlanta. He was most happy gardening and woodworking. His signature work was his fireplace mantel that he designed and crafted. An avid traveler, he was proud and fortunate to have visited all 50 states and travel abroad. One of his favorite trips was the one he planned for the Bicentennial when he took his family cross-country. His love of photography helped to document this trip and many others. Other hobbies included golfing, sports and Sudoku.  He was proud to say that he never missed a Buffalo Bills home game during his time spent there. In his later years he found much joy in attending his grandchildren’s various activities.
In a long struggle to defeat leukemia, he succeeded with the inspiration and help of sister and marrow donor Nanci, as well as his three grandchildren. He used this inspiration to outlive the expectations of many of the doctors familiar with his condition.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 2:00pm at St. Ann's Church in Marietta, GA
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to M.D. Anderson Hospital located at 4515 Holcomb Blvd. Houston, TX 77030.
