East Cobb's Don Schaet Trains for 39th Century Ride with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Schaet has raised more than $200,000 for LLS, including more than $10,000 to date for his current event.

Don Schaet started his journey with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) by taking a 100-mile bike ride in Santa Fe, New Mexico back in 1999. He wanted a way to stay fit and help children suffering from blood cancers.

Don has completed 40 fundraising endurance events with TNT including 38 century bike rides, a marathon and a triathlon. He rode 100 miles in Hawaii, where he was stationed as a Marine, in 2008. Don rode in Lance Armstrong’s Ride for the Roses in Texas in 2011 and along the Yellowstone River in Montana in 2012. This June marks Don’s 39th century bike ride in Lake Tahoe as a member of Team In Training.

Don has raised over $200,000 for LLS, including more than $10,000 to date for his current event. His goal is to bring that total up to over a quarter-million dollars by June, making him one of the Georgia Chapter’s top fundraisers. He aims to raise $60,000 this year with Team In Training. With over $1.4 billion raised since 1988, TNT athletes are contributing to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's goal of one day finding cures for blood cancers.

When asked what drives him, Don says “I participate in TNT events to end the suffering from blood cancers and hasten the day when there is a cure.” The discovery of better treatment options and cures is what keeps him active and raising funds. In addition, he has accomplished his personal quest to pedal a 100-mile bike ride in all 50 states.
