Cobb Under Flash Flood Watch

Already-waterlogged East Cobbers should be on alert through Friday morning.

More rain, and another flash flood watch is in effect in Cobb County.

Sound familiar?

A quick, but heavy thunderstorm moved through East Cobb Thursday afternoon, as part of a larger weather system that has had most of north and central Georgia under a flash flood watch today.

The watch area, which includes all of the metro Atlanta area, is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A flash flood warning was set to expire in Cobb at 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to the NWS, heavy rain on Wednesday resulted in 3 to 8 inches of rain in areas of north Georgia, but most areas experienced 2 to 4 inches of rain.

A brief rain spell brought around another inch or so to the Cobb area, and scattered showers are expected through Friday morning.

It's another soggy episode in what has been a very wet summer in East Cobb. Many Independence Day activities were cancelled or postponed because of heavy rains.

Flash flood warnings were in effect, especially in areas of East Cobb along the Chattahoochee River and Sope Creek, as both neared flood stage.

Partly cloudy skies are in the weekend forecast, with up to a 50 percent chance of rain and temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s.
