About this column:
Updates on the East Cobb dining scene. If you know of a restaurant opening, closing or moving, or have other news to share, please contact Wendy Parker: wendy.parker@patch.comOn Monday we told you about what's leaving the East Cobb Crossing Shopping Center -- the Michaels store that's moving to the old Borders space -- and we neglected to tell you what's new at retail center at Roswell and Johnson Ferry. Crepe Cafe has opened and even has gotten a food inspection from Cobb and Douglas Public Health -- a near-perfect score of 99 in mid-January. It's so new, in fact, there aren't hours posted on the front, so we're asking if any of you who have eaten there what's on the menu, and how you like the place. Tell us what you think in the comments, and if you have …
One of the few restaurants in the greater East Cobb area serving a variety of African specialty dishes has announced it is moving. According to its Facebook page, Motherland Kitchen and Spices is no longer open at its original location at 2359 Windy Hill Road, in the Windy Hill Village Shopping Center. "Dear family, we are currently closed in Marietta," according to the message, which was posted on Tuesday afternoon. "We would be updating you all as soon as we can. We hope everyone is having a beautiful 2013." The restaurant's website also has been disabled. Several Motherland Kitchen …
East Cobb breakfast diners have a new haunt to try out. Earlier this month Reveille Cafe opened in the Sandy Plains Centre shopping center (at the intersection of Sandy Plains and Shallowford), to follow the original Reveille Coffehouse Cafe location in Acworth last year. In addition to traditional breakfast and brunch fare of Eggs Benedict, omelets, shrimp and grits, crepes and French toast, Reveille Cafe also has a full lunch menu, including sandwiches, burgers and salads. Getting the most critical attention are the Mystical French Toast and the Dyne-O-Mite burger. A variety of coffee …
East Cobb has lost one Italian restaurant and gained another, all in the same space. The spot formerly occupied by Caffe Fortunato at Paper Mill Village will reopen as Valenti's Family Dining on Monday, according to a message posted on the retail center's Facebook page. As the name indicates, Valenti's will specialize in family-style meals served on large platters, according to a Paper Mill Village publicist, who said that the new restaurant is locally-owned. She did not know when Caffe Fortunato closed, but said "it's been very recent." The restaurant space is located near Paper Mill Grill …
The lower Powers Ferry Road corridor in East Cobb has been a troublesome place for restaurants in recent years. And now another vacancy is about to occur. According to the Atlanta restaurant, real estate and retail blog What Now, the Houston's location at Powers Ferry Road and Windy Hill Road will be closing on Jan. 31. The "upscale American casual" chain, which has three remaining locations in Atlanta, also features valet parking and does a good lunch business serving neighboring commercial and office parks, including Wildwood. No reason was given for the closing, according to the What Now …
It's been just over a year since Seed Kitchen & Bar took root at Merchant's Walk Shopping Center. The much-talked-about Seed (1311 Johnson Ferry Road) was included among the "Best New Restaurants" of 2012 by Atlanta magazine. In a recent interview with Atlanta Eater, owner and chef Doug Turbush said while he's generally been pleased with the reception, "something we're going to do differently is build up a bigger brunch crowd." Earlier this week, Seed sent out notice that its Sunday brunch service now begins at 10 a.m. and has some changes on its expanded menu. Among the new features are …
