Wheeler Student Drowns in Bali
Morgan Lide was in Indonesia as part of a State Department student exchange program.
The Wheeler High School community is mourning the death of a student who drowned over the weekend while on an exchange program in Bali.
According to a notice on Wheeler's marching band Facebook page, Morgan Lide died while swimming in the ocean off the Indonesian coast:
"Morgan touched the lives of so many with her smile, love and kindness. Morgan embarked on an amazing journey her senior year of high school as a youth ambassador in Indonesia. Tragically, she drowned while with friends."
A report on the 11 Alive website said Lide was part of the U.S. State Department-sponsored Kennedy-Lugar YES Abroad Program, and was living with a host family in the Asian nation.
Like many of the students in the YES Abroad program, she kept a blog of her experiences.
Wheeler students were asked to wear blue to school on Monday in Lide's honor.
