Vanderbilt Honors Wheeler Graduate
Michael Beno has earned a Founders Medalist as he received his degree in early childhood education on Friday.
Most importantly, he has been given a special honor for graduating first in his class at the Nashville institution's Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
Beno, who graduated from Wheeler in 2008, earned a Founders Medalist to go with his bachelor's degree in early childhood education. According to Vanderbilt, Beno is "a consummate example of a learning teacher, one who is consistently and visibly committed to inquiry, mentorship and community service."
He has been a volunteer mentor since his middle school days, working with at-risk youth in such programs as Big Brothers. Since arriving at Vanderbilt, Beno has been a youth soccer coach there and teaches religious education at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
He will remain in Nashville and teach first grade.
