Retiring Lassiter Coach Wins Home Finale

Steve Day is stepping down after 31 seasons in charge of the Trojans' varsity wrestling team.

After 31 successful seasons, Lassiter High School wrestling Coach Steve Day led his final home meet earlier this week.

The Trojan wrestling team sent Day out with a tight victory over Centennial, winning 37-36 in a dual meet.

Day leaves quite a legacy, having seen more than 350 dual wins, five region titles, 13 individual state champions and over 75 state-placers.

Day was profiled by The Marietta Daily Journal earlier in January when he announced his retirement due to health reasons. He will continue to teach at Lassiter.

The Trojans will participate in the final stretch of the Georgia high school traditional wrestling schedule, starting with the Region 5-AAAAAA championships next weekend at Wheeler.
