The Lady Greyhounds and Lassiter are in action Thursday in the Georgia High School Association championships in Columbus.
The Lassiter High School softball team is back in a familiar place.
The Lady Greyhounds of Pope High School are in a brand new place.
For both East Cobb teams, it's the same place -- the Georgia High School Association state championships, which begin today in Columbus.
They're two of the six Cobb teams that have reached this stage of the tournament, which is previewed in full by The Marietta Daily Journal.
Lassiter plays East Coweta at 6 p.m. today, which along with Kennesaw Mountain, Hillgrove and Harrison make up half of the Class AAAAAA field.
Kennesaw Mountain faces Mill Creek, Hillgrove meets Archer and Harrison goes up against Collins Hill, the three-time defending state champion.
At 4:15 p.m., Pope plays Greenbrier and Allatoona faces Whitewater their in Class AAAAA openers.
The double elimination tournaments in all six classifications conclude on Saturday.
Lassiter was the last Cobb team to win a state championship in 2007 and is back in the final stage under first-year head coach Jason Campbell, who moved over from Hillgrove.
Pope has never gotten this far before, but the other Cobb teams have been making regular trips to Columbus.
Harrison, a state champion in 2000, is making its eighth visit, Kennesaw Mountain returns for the fourth time in five years and Allatoona was a state-runnerup two years ago.
Hillgrove, coached now by Laura Voyles, is back for the third consecutive year.
