Pope Favored in Regional Wrestling
The Greyhounds will be the hosts for the Region 7-AAAAA duals Saturday; Lassiter is seeded No. 1 in Region 5-AAAAAA.
Coming off a strong performance at The Clash dual tournament in Rochester, Minn., over the holidays, the Pope High School wrestling team has returned home to play host to the Region 7-AAAAA duals on Saturday.
Pope, the reigning state champion in duals, finished 10th at The Clash without star senior Brooks Climmons. The Greyhounds, who are 25-3 on the season, also moved up in the Intermat Fab 50 national high school rankings, from No. 50 to 34. They are the only Georgia school in those rankings.
Kell is seeded No. 3 in the same regional and Sprayberry is No. 7.
Also on Saturday, Lassiter enters the Region 5-AAAAAA duals as the co-top seed, along with host Roswell. Wheeler and Walton also are entered.
Both regional meets begin at 9 a.m., with finals beginning at 2 p.m.
