Lockheed Author Speaks in East Cobb

Joe Kirby will talk about his history of the military plane manufacturer at Temple Kol Emeth Sunday.

Joe Kirby, a longtime editor at The Marietta Daily Journal and Cobb history author, will give a talk at East Cobb's Sunday about his new book on the history of Lockheed Martin

The event, sponsored by the Kol Emeth Brotherhood, begins at 9 a.m. and will be preceded by breakfast.

The Lockheed Plant, which was published in September, includes more than 200 pictures to tell the story of the company from its post-World War II origins to the present. His previous book, The Bell Bomber Plant, was devoted to the World War II-era plant that was built on the site where Lockheed is now located and that helped lift Cobb out of the Depression.

In a recent interview, Kirby said many of the photos included in the Lockheed book have not been seen by the general public in more than 50 years, since some come from personal collections.

After the talk, Kirby will be signing books for guests. The cost per copy is $22.
