Houston's at Wildwood to Close
The last day of business for the Windy Hill Road restaurant is Jan. 31.
The lower Powers Ferry Road corridor in East Cobb has been a troublesome place for restaurants in recent years.
And now another vacancy is about to occur.
According to the Atlanta restaurant, real estate and retail blog What Now, the Houston's location at Powers Ferry Road and Windy Hill Road will be closing on Jan. 31.
The "upscale American casual" chain, which has three remaining locations in Atlanta, also features valet parking and does a good lunch business serving neighboring commercial and office parks, including Wildwood.
No reason was given for the closing, according to the What Now post, but other nearby restaurant space has emptied out due in part to the recession.
Houston's is part of a string of restaurants on the eastern side of Powers Ferry Road that is largely empty. It is adjacent to the Sal Grosso Brazilian steakhouse and two doors down from the Rose and Crown Tavern, which opened in 2010 in the place of the former La Madeleine restaurant.
On the other side of the Rose and Crown are two long-vacant standalone restaurant buildings, including a former TGI Friday's location.
What Now has referred to the area as a "death row" for restaurants, but Rose and Crown remains as a family-owned neighborhood-style pub, with live music twice a week.
