Some of the more than 3,000 riders who took part in the Georgia Bike Rides to the Capitol Tuesday morning began pedalling off from the starting point at the East Cobb Government Center on Lower Roswell Road.
The Cobb portion of the ride continued down Johnson Ferry Road, receiving a Cobb police escort to the Chattahoochee River.
The ride and rally at the Georgia Capitol were organized to bring attention to and raise support for improved conditions for cycling, including the development of regional systems of on-road bicycling facilities and multi-use trails. Said Thomas Lash, Vice President of Bike Cobb:
"The bike laws and people that respect bikes on the road seem to be at an all-time high, right when gas prices are going through the roof. You would think people would be interested in bicycling and how to make it work in this economy."
