East Cobb Woman Held on $1M Bond
Sharron Rice is accused of embezzling more than $700,000 from a Powers Ferry Road apartment management company.
An East Cobb woman charged with taking nearly three quarters of a million dollars from her former employer remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Facility this weekend on a $1 million bond.
The Marietta Daily Journal reported Saturday that Sharron Yvonne Rice is accused of embezzling a total of $737,414 from D.E.L. Development Co. and depositing it into a Regions bank account.
Rice was arrested on Wednesday on one count of felony theft by taking, according to Cobb Sheriff's Office records, which also list her home address as being on Millview Drive, located off Barnes Mill Road in East Cobb.
The MDJ report said Rice worked in an accounting unit at D.E.L., an apartment management company based on Powers Ferry Road in East Cobb, and allegedly forged the signature of her supervisor on more than 800 checks over a five-year period.
The story said Rice's attorney complained of an excessive bail and that he would seek a reduction at a Feb. 21 bond hearing.

Seems to be a surge in 'white collar' crime in East Cobb in recent times. Is stealing with a pen any less wretched than stealing with a gun?

Stealing with a pen any less wretched than stealing with a gun? Uh, yes. Haven't seen many crimes where people have been killed with a pen. Financially painful, yes, but killed? No.

Yes, if my daughter worked alongside this felon, I would not be having the nightmares I would have if my child's co-worker went "postal" with a legally-obtained weapon.
