Cobb Schools Seek Map Comments

The Cobb County Board of Education will seek public feedback on the new map of the board's seven districts at its next meeting.
Board Chairman Scott Sweeney on Wednesday added the school board's reapportionment to the agenda for the board's April 26 meeting.
Gov. Nathan Deal had not signed H.B. 1208, the legislation redrawing the election districts in Cobb, as of Thursday morning, but he is expected to do so.
The legislation uses a map that's different from what the school board itself proposed, so board members are anxious about what the map shows.
David Banks of Post 5 in East and Northeast Cobb this week distributed a link to a map from the Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office, which is attached to this article as a PDF file, but it's not official without Deal's signature.
Post 7 member Alison Bartlett was concerned about holding a public discussion of the new districts before people have seen the official map—"We need to put the maps out to the public first"—but Sweeney said next week's discussion won't necessarily be the only one.
The reapportionment generally shifts posts clockwise around the city of Marietta, which is not part of the Cobb County School District.
Posts 1 (Lynnda Eagle), 3 (David Morgan), 5 (Banks) and 7 (Bartlett) are up for election this year.
Candidates must file in late May to appear on the July 31 primary ballot, so Sweeney said it's important for people to learn about the district lines as soon as possible.
He said he talked to Cobb Elections Director Janine Eveler, and she expects to have a person working on updated school board maps next week.

The map provided is not correct according to the Cobb Delegation. Lassiter and Pope will be in Post 5, Kell and Sprayberry in Post 4, and Walton and Wheeler in Post 6. I'm in Post 5 and very pleased with the response from my representatives of the Cobb Delegation regarding this issue.

Hi, Carter: The map marked as the one provided by David Banks does show Lassiter and Pope in Post 5, Walton and Wheeler in Post 6, and Kell and Sprayberry in Post 4.

Sorry, it has the title "Approve Cobb School Board Map." That's the one David Banks linked to. And it has the high schools divided as you suggest.

I apologize if I am incorrect - it is difficult to tell without being able to zoom further to see street names. However, the word "Lassiter 01" is clearly in Post 4. I received a different map from a member of the Cobb Delegation that labels all of the schools in their appropriate Posts.

No need to apologize. I can't speak for the map's accuracy, but Lassiter lies just east of the line between Posts 4 and 5 on this map. It's incredibly difficult to read it, though, and, oddly, Lassiter High isn't actually inside the Lassiter 01 precinct. Very tricky. Have a good weekend.

Thanks, Michael. It is interesting that the CCSB is asking for feedback now that the map has gone through multiple drastic changes over the past couple of months in the state legislature. When did they ever consider public input?
The map is a distraction from the outrage parents/students/teachers have over increased class sizes and the teaching positions lost this week in our schools. Anyone complaining now about the map should have been more vocal when they had the opportunity. The East Cobb Delegation listened to the valid concerns I raised and created a reasonable final draft. Let's get back to REAL issues. The CCSB needs to cut transportation and custodial costs - NOT classroom teachers! Has anyone looked at the multiple administrative levels in the CCSD Transportation department? Transportation costs the district @ $200,000 per day.
